Matti May Hardie

2016 has left to be desired. Worldwide? It's been fairly shit. Personally? Only averagely shit. On a whole - well, I'd like to move to the moon after the whole ordeal.

Despite that, I have had some rather nice times, some of which I captured on camera and decided to upload it on the internet, and now I'm showing you lot my favourite bits. Fun times. Let's get on with it, shall we?

Top left to bottom

- Riiight at the start of the year, I'm talking early January, Mama and I moved into our new appartment. It was fairly hectic but we managed it!

- You guys probably all already know, but I am a huge fan of Orange Is The New Black, so naturally I was overjoyed when season 4 came out! So many tears happened.

- Before the holidays in the dorms we have a party, and this one was a particularly poignant one because it was going to be the last one for most of my friend group, so it was slightly bittersweet, too. It was 70's theme and everyone got amazingly dressed up!

- This was later on in the year, at the end of June, my whole friend group got together to celebrate two things - end of finals for them, and also my friend Mélody's 22nd birthday! It was a really great night, topped off by the great news the next day that all of them passed their exams!

Top left to bottom right

- I finally got around to making my room look pretty, and I think it's safe to say that I'm bloody well proud of it.

- Over this year I seem to have developped something of a love affaire with sushi. How did I never know how good it is?!

- Marion came over for the weekend and decided she was going to cook (because I have a history of burning pasta so I don't tend to dare cook most of the time!) and oh my god, it was so impossibly instagrammable I couldn't not instagram it all.

- Me and my favourites met up to celebrate Halloween. I went as Mathilda from Leon, and that's my friend Théa as the Joker (she was one half of a duo with another friend who had gone as Harley Quinn).

- Follow up to the last photo with my friend who played Harley Quinn.

- Very spur of the moment decision, but Mama came home one morning with a little baby cat in her arms! Her name is Coco Latte and ohh she's so little!

- This is kind of to represent all the new friends I've made during the new year. With a new year comes new students and I've met some right good eggs.

What's been the highlights of 2016 for you guys?

Well this post is horrendously late, isn't it! Me? Useless at doing anything on time? Lies!

I feel like I've rediscovered make-up recently and I finally enjoy putting make-up on, and it's a lot less of a burden than it has been in the past.

Base

I've decided to give up on foundation. Dun dun duuun. This decision was made when I did put foundation on and realised that it doesn't suit me, really. It dulls my freckles, but not quite enough to hide them completely, so it just looks a bit dumb, so I gave up on the stuff. Instead, I've opted for the MAC 'Pro-Longwear' concealer. Of course, (when I remember, at least) I prime my face with the Benefit 'Porefessional' primer, as usual. Also under my concealer, however, I'm going to put some green concealer in any places where I have any redness or hyper-pigmentation (generally that means chin, jawbone, under my nose and on any spots), then I'll lightly blend it in. I was a bit skeptical at first but actually turns out this shit is great! I'm setting that with the E.L.F "High Definition'.

Eyes

Recently I've taken to not using eyeliner or anything, simply because, as I've already said many times, I end up looking like a panda, and as you can imagine it's really unattractive. Instead, I've opted for eyeshadow. I've been quite liking putting the shade ME-512 (that lovely champagne colour in the middle of the bottom row) from my Make-Up Forever 'Spring Flower' palette on the entirety of my lid, and then with a slanted brush, just dabbing a bit of ME-930 on my top lash line and on my bottom lash from the end of my eye to the middle of my eye. Sometimes, if I'm feeling a bit bolder, I'll do it from the beginning of my eye to the middle which I feel defines my eye a bit more.
I'll finish it up with the TooFaced 'Better Than Sex' mascara which I need a whole other post to discuss because OH LORDY it's good!

Blush, Bronze and Highlight

I have nothing to say about this part, I'm literally in love with these little beauties in my TooFaced palette! They're really amazing, pigmented and all the heart-eyed emojis! I think I'm going to do a full review on the set I got for Christmas because it really is great!

Lips

I'm going quite neutral on my lips of late. I'm not sure quite what's come over me but I just haven't had the reflex to grab my Kate Moss in 107 or my Clinique lipstick. I've actually, for once, been longing for more nude lips, and focusing more on the eyes. Saying that, I do love a good lipstick, and these two have definitely been doing a mighty fine job. I've been mostly reaching for MAC lipstick in the shade 'Hug Me' or more recently the TooFaced 'Melted' liquified lipstick in Chocolate Milkshake WHICH SMELLS OF CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE and I had a fit when I realised this.

What have you been wearing recently? I hope you guys had a nice Christmas and are going to get horribly drunk and have a blast with your friends on New Years Eve!

I blame you lot for this post. THIS IS YOUR FAULT, DON'T START JUDGING ME!

How's the build-up to Christmas going for you lot? Personally for me it's going pretty smoothly, but I know that's not the case for everyone.  I worked in a salon for 3 weeks and almost everyone when asked admitted they were nowhere near ready for Christmas. With that in mind, I thought I'd do a realistic gift guide for people who, like me, are broke and desperate and need a hand. Some of these are a little more expensive, but this is also to help give you some ideas also of things that could be nice to buy.

Sorry there isn't many ideas but I'm shit at buying presents - especially stocking filler/cheap type presents! Hope this helped jog your thought process though.

Merry Christmas! I may post something on Saturday, but I'm not sure because I'll be with my family. We shall see!

One of the perks of blogging is getting to work with brands and get free samples and being able to give your readers a code of some kind so they can benefit, too... But that doesn't come right away. One thing some people think is that almost as soon as you start your blog, brands are going to be flooding in asking you to be the face of this campaign, to try out that new product. You wish. In blogging, getting brands to approach you is hard as fuck. So, for today's post I'm going to be giving you guys a few tips on how to collaborate with brands, and the do's and don'ts of PR. Baring in mind these are just things I've seen and read about, as well as personal experiences. I haven't actually worked with that many brands so I'm not even slightly an expert!

1/ Don't Be Scared To Reach Out To Brands
The best plan is to just reach out to them if you want to. Just try and remain in your bracket. If the brand you want to work with has, say 24k followers on Twitter and you have 20, it's safe to say that they're not going to notice you. When you're still a fairly small blogger, try searching Twitter for startups that could be interesting to collaborate with or even just to get your name out there so *maybe* they'll think of you next time they launch a campaign.

2/ Brainstorm Possible Posts Before Contacting Them

One mistake I made when I started contacting brands, because this didn't occur to me for some reason, is that they expect you to already have some post ideas for them. In my mind, I thought they'd say 'okay we want you to do this and this in exchange for this' so I was taken aback slightly when they asked me for what posts I was thinking of writing.

3/ Etsy Shops Are Hard Nuts To Crack

Despite what you would think at first, Etsy stores are seriously uncooperative. I mean, some are absolutely lovely, but they're few and far between. Some people are lovely (like the shop I collaborated with a while ago), but most just don't bother replying. I may have sent about 30 shops some messages and I only got a couple of replies, and that ended up being just one collaboration, so don't hold out to get too many responses.

4/ Get Yourself A Media Kit

I've decided that media kits are essentials if you want to collaborate with brands. It's so useful, I have a post about that here.

5/ Mention/Thank The Brand On Your Social Media

If a brand has sent you something, it's always nice to just say thank you over social media. Especially if it's a start-up brand then they'll probably be glad for the extra publicity. Plus, it's just nice innit.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that it helped any newer bloggers out there. Bloggers! If anyone have anything extra to add, do share in the comments.

This is being written from a very precarious position, I've just painted my nails and I'm terrified off chipping this.

I want everyone here to know what this post was born out of procrastination. But not the usual kind where you're avoiding doing a job you need to do, no, I'm procrastinating from relaxing. I'm having a really relaxed Sunday, Mama and I went out for lunch, and I've been on the sofa doing little jobs on my laptop for most of the afternoon. I finished everything I have to do, and I found myself gagging for something to do. I didn't want to switch off and think about nothing. I needed to be totally immersed in something, because if not then my brain was going to go hay-wire. I was caught up on social media, I didn't have any inspiration to finish or start a blog post, all my blog admin was done, my Youtube subscriptions box was dead, everything was impossibly quiet. The horror.

I'm pretty sure this comes from my anxiety and paranoia. If I'm left to my own thoughts, I just end up over-thinking things and before you know it my anxiety is going insane and I'm convinced everyone hates me. So I just avoid relaxing and switching off. I force myself to be busy constantly, always looking for something to occupy my mind. That's one of the reasons I love having a blog so much. Before I started this blog, I'd spend my days on social media, but there was no reason to it. There was no productivity, and when social media was dead, I was left with nothing to do. Now I have my blog, if I'm bored, I can take blog photos, finish a blog post, schedule blog posts to come, do admin, contact brands, sort my e-mails.

To put it simply, it opened up a whole new list of things I could do, and it was amazing; I realise now that it was a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because it gave me somewhere to house my creativity and a way to do something other than scroll aimlessly on Twitter, but it also made it so that my default thing to do when I have nothing else to do is to blog, and now I really struggle to stay focused on one thing. I now am incapable of switching off. Where as some people relish in turning their phones and laptops off for an evening, have a bath and just chill, that sounds horrific to me. The idea of just sitting and being left to my own thoughts is a dangerous concept.

I'm taking baby steps in the whole 'making myself learn to switch off', for example, this afternoon I made myself a cup of tea, closed my laptop and read a book. And guess what? The world didn't end. No one went into panic mode. There wasn't 34564 missed calls from someone in grave danger. Most importantly, no one decided they hated me in that time.

I was a bit apprehensive about writing this post because I didn't want anyone to think I was completely mental, and then I remembered that I don't care and all the apprehension went away!

Saying that, let me know in the comments if you're the same, or you have times when you find yourself actively avoiding switching off for your own good?

I'd love to have an intro right now, really love it, however, I do not, so let's just do this.

Marks and Spencers Frankincense & Myrrh Candle

This is possibly my ultimate Christmas candle. It just smells so amazing and every Christmas Mama orders it from Marks and Spencers and lasts next to no time because we just light it constantly! I don't even know what gets me about it so much about it but I just never get tired of it.

Make-Up Forever 'Spring Flower' eyeshadow palette

Mama got this for me back when she went to Thailand at the beginning of this year, and even though the colours a prettyy af, I was worried I wouldn't be able to use it because there were a lot of colours that were either not going to suit me or weren't really wearable for everyday. I decided to try and up my eyeshadow game at the moment, and I've been using the shades I-544, ME-930 and ME-512 together all the time at the moment.

Incense

It's the small things but I first got into incense through my friend. We'd hang out at her apartment, turn on her lava lamps, light some incense and put on a vinyl. It was great. My dormmate ended up with some incense (I have literally no idea how) and offered me some. I, of course, said yes because I freaking love the smell of incense, and it's literally the most relaxing thing. Incense + fairy lights and lava lamp = total chill.

Photo Wall

This is kind of a random favourite but this is seriously one of my favourite bits of this month. I got loads of photos of my friends printed and I decided to make myself a proper photo wall. It's lovely and I've put a bit of cardboard I found at the back of a frame I'm going to paint and write a lil' sumsum in the middle and it makes me happy to see photos of my favourites everytime I'm in my bed. (Sorry about the photo and how much reflection the photos give off - my window is facing it!)

MAC 'Pro Longwear' concealer

I hadn't used this in a really long time, for some unknown reason - I think it had something to do with the fact that I went really pale all of a sudden and got very scared and disappointed because I thought I bought it in the wrong shade, so I left it to the side and it wasn't touched, in favour of my Urban Decay 'Naked' concealer, but seeing as it is no more, I tried my Pro Longwear concealer and LORDY WHY DID I EVER LEAVE YOU. This is just such a good concealer. It works particularly well for undereye circles and redness.

Benefit 'Benetint' lip and cheek tint

I got this as a mini version in my Benefit 'Life Of The Party' kit last Christmas, and I'd never really looked twice at it because, and I'm going to be honest with you, I was a *bit* scared of it. But since I didn't have my blush in the On The Run palette, and I figured I needed to bite the bullet and give it a go, and turns out it's a bloody amazing blush! It's super pigmented so you don't have to put on a ton and blends like a dream!

Maybelline 'Colour Sensational' lipstick in Red Revolution

I rediscovered this at Halloween, actually, but have been wearing it religously through November. It's perfect if you're looking for something to feel a bit more classy, even if it's just to go to work or to your classes.
                                            _____________________________________

Lil' announcement! I am yet again going to be changing my layout so bare with me if it looks a bit questionable sometimes.

What have you been loving this month?

My lack of an attention span is something I entirely blame on the internet. I mean, I have a short attention span to begin with, but I'm pretty sure the internet did not help even slightly. Because of this, it makes things like watching films and doing things that mean where I need to focus for longer. Saying this, I have found a couple of podcasts that managed to withhold my attention, and I wanted to share them with you guys!

Ctrl, Alt, Delete

You've probably already heard of this podcast, it's by fellow blogger Emma Gannon, and it's got the same title as her book, and in the podcast she interviews different women who are on the internet. I mean, when the first interview is with Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love), you know that it's going to be good! My personal favourite is with her interview with Zoella, not just because it's Zoella, but because the questions and answers are really interesting.

EW's Game Of Thrones Weekly

Game Of Thrones is basically one of my top 2 favourite shows. Orange Is The New Black and Game Of Thrones. This podcast basically consists of two guys talking about the new episode of GoT, talking about what they liked, what the didn’t like, theories, what they think could happen, that kind of thing. It’s obviously a given you can’t really listen to it without having watching GoT, but if you do I’d definitely give this a try.

Ear Biscuits

This podcast is bought to you by the lovely gentlemen of the Youtube chat show ‘Good Mythical Morning’, Rhett and Link. They interview different Youtubers and ask some really interesting questions, and it’s a good way of getting to know the Youtubers on a more personal level, but also they do other episodes now and again (monthly, I think?) where they talk about a different subjects and it’s just Rhett and Link talking. In those episodes they literally just tell anecdotes about them and it’s really funny.

What are your favourite podcasts? Let me know because I swear I need some more to listen to!

P.S - Stop judging me for not sorting my layout out yet. I am utterly shit at HTML and I have absolutely no idea how to get rid of the black bar at the top of the screen. Fun times. I am sorry, I shall do my best to try and sort it out.

It's a glorious Sunday as I'm writing this. I have The Michalaks' latest vlog in the corner, my lunch was amazing and fairly healthy too, and I'm now drinking coke from a coffee cup because why not.
I've been thinking a lot recently and I didn't want to make some big convoluted post about it so I figured I'd do a Cup Of Tea and A Catch Up and talk about it here.
On my blog, I'm generally quite grumpy, sarcastic, with a very dry humour, and if not then I'm just very excitable and a *bit* like a toddler who's had to many sweets. I'm not into collabs, I'm not cutesy, I try to avoid being like some teen bloggers who just seem overly happy and positive all the time. I complain, I'm always real with you guys and I swear. I try and stay as human as possible, and sometimes I worry I'm too real, I've realised from this that because I'm so frank, I now feel like I can't do stuff like tags and blogger awards and that kind of stuff, because, well, that's not how I am. I mean, I'm not, but about a month or so ago, a fellow blogger tagged me in a blogger award, I was flattered, but then I worried because, oh, wait, I can't post this on my blog. This isn't the kind of stuff I post, this isn't my kind of content, I'm the sarcastic one that swears! It annoys me that I feel like I've written myself into a corner so now I can't let myself do things that I do kind of like doing from time to time.

This is something that I hate about putting myself on the internet. I feel like I've created a "brand" (ew) for myself that I can't get out of now. I've created this character, if you will, and I'm now scared to break character, out of fear that you guys are going to be like "oh right, okay, she's gone all cutesy on us, let's go guys". It's stupid, I know, but it's something I worry about.

I pride myself on being able to talk about make-up and fashion and shit like that and still have a manner of speaking that isn't classed as a classic 'beauty blogger'. That's actually quite a nice segway for my next little piece of information, which is that I'm going to try branching out my content. It's another part that comes with feeling like I'm cornered against a wall, it's because I feel like I know have no choice but write the same kind of posts all the time. I've brainstormed a lot (a two-hour round trip on the bus to my friend's house for Halloween helped with that) and have decided to shamelessly make posts about cross-dressing, LGBT stuff, and mental health. Because I refuse to be 'that blogger' who never makes anything that isn't beauty, fashion or lifestyle-related. I have opinions on things and I want this to be a more diverse place, where it's not just "today I'm wearing Lady Danger on my lips!".

Let me know what your thoughts are on the subject as I'd love to hear them.

Today I am going to be sharing my knowledge once again with you guys. Media kits are funny things that are actually quite difficult to do without some sort of guide. It's doable, just it's easier with some sort of template. But what is a media kit? I hear you ask. A media kit is a pdf document that you can send to brands that tells them everything they need to know about you and your blog; what services you provide, your stats and social media platforms, it's basically just jam packed with everything a brand needs to know about you in the shortest space of time.

Most brands (especially bigger brands) don't have time to fuck about reading a 6 page long document with your life story and photos of your dog included. I'd advise making it as short and concise as possible. You can see mine here and here (the second one is the first gen of my media kit to give you an example of another way to present it) so you can get an idea as to what it should probably look like, though the point of a media kit is also to show your originality and personality so make sure to add your personal touches.

Bio

Kind of like a bio on social media, it's always a good idea to introduce yourself and your blog to explain what your blog is about and what you talk about and all that jazz. Be sure to give your name, what subjects you talk about in your blog and it can't hurt to mention how old your blog is either.

A Photo

Again it's in order to personalise the media kit and so the brand has an idea of who they're dealing with.

Blog Banner/Logo

Personally, my blog doesn't really have a logo as such so I just went for my banner. It's a good idea to have it right at the top (if you're using a banner) because it helps start things off in my opinion. It helps say like 'right, this is my banner, welcome to my media kit'... I don't even know, just trust me on this one.

Social Media Stats

I know that social media following is not the be all and end all but from a business point of view, brands look at your social media stats to get an idea of your outreach. They want as many people to see your post as possible in order for it to be worth collaborating with you so make sure to update your stats regularly.

Blog Analytics

Now, I'm not saying you should just put a screenshot of your Google Analytics page on there, generally the main 3 things is your monthly sessions, users and pageviews, which you can find on your Google Analytics page (if you haven't got google analytics set up yet, I'd strongly recomend you do so asap. It's a lot more accurate than the stats page on Blogger or Wordpress or whatever site is hosting your blog). For those who were like me and have no freaking clue what a session, user and pageview is, allow me to explain. A session is the period of time that someone is on your blog. On Google Analytics they show you the number of sessions within the date range you chose. A user is someone who has at least one session within the date range; it includes new and returning visitors. And finally, quite simply pageviews are the number of pages viewed, which counts for repeated views of a page, too.

Demographic

This is equally important, as it shows what kind of person reads your blog. What's good about Google Analytics is that you can see so much info on your audience. Their age, where they come from, what they look at your blog on (OSX, Windows, iOS, Android) and even their browser. You can also obviously see their gender and their age. It's good to show your demographic to show who you're going to be presenting the product to. Bareing in mind that if you're trying to make different types of content, this may hinder you

That's basically all I personally put. Like I said, there's no need to make it a 10 page document, and in my opinion that's all I need to put so that the brand can see the essential.

As always, any fellow bloggers that have some pearls of wisdom to add feel free to in the comments!

I don't actually have that many beauty related favourites this month, simple because I don't have the will to put on any make-up whilst at school.
Memrise
I heard about this from Eve Bennett's video, and it intrigued me because as you guys probably all know by now, I am trying to learn Korean. I've been trying and trying and looking for different websites and apps and they've all been okay but not quite what I'm looking for - then I tried Memrise. You basically have different levels and you can review stuff you've already learnt so you don't forget it and it's actually got me wanting to learn Korean again! I don't know about other languages but for Korean they do linger on Hangul a fair bit but I guess that's understandable seeing as if you don't know Hangul you're not going to get very far!
E.L.F ‘High Definition’ Loose Powder
I’ve had this for an age and a half, you’ve all already heard about it, but I’ve actually learnt how to apply it properly (!!!) and I’m now well and truly in love with it. It mattifies really nicely, even though you can see it if you haven’t blended it in properly, but that’s a small price to pay for such an amazing natural matte finish. One thing that really sells it for me is that isn't doesn't get into any creases or my pores and just sits really nicely on my skin. And, icing on the cake, since it's E.L.F, it's super affordable.

CVS Pharmacy Cold Sore Treatment
I got this an age and a half ago, back when I was in New York. I have a bad tendancy of developping cold sores at the worst possible moments, and this was one of those times. When in the big apple, the point is to look as fly as possible, and not like you’ve developped herpes - yum. I decided to go to CVS (I had no idea that it was CVS until now when I read the name) and pick up some cold sore treatment. I didn’t look into it all that much, I just wanted something to help clear up the unwanted thing on my lip. Well, it worked. I can say with conviction that this beats everything. It beats every other cold sore cream, gel, and potion I’ve ever tried. I don’t know why, but it’s very drying, and if there’s one thing you want to do with cold sores is to dry them out. It’s a really weird consistency, kind of a gel but then when you’re applying it it goes at dry. It’s really difficult to explain, but my point is that this works really well. In order to combat cold sores, I tend to wet a tea bag (yes, really) and put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes, stick that on the sore in the morning until it’s de-freezed (if you have the time, otherwise just leave it on for as long as you can), then apply the treatment. It works really well since the tea bag helps stop it from swelling too much, and the treatment works to get rid of it entirely. Teamwork!
Death Note

Source
I’m so glad I’m keeping my favourites jolly, eh? I’m just kidding, this is an anime I’ve recently gotten into. I’ve only recently started watching animes, and I’ve quickly realised they’re perfect for me because I have such a short attention span, I’m struggling with hour-long episodes. Anime episodes are about a half-hour long so it’s half the length of a TV show episode. I’ve got a post on my k-pop blog here if anyone’s interested in getting into anime.
Anyway, Death Note is a really cool anime about a guy called Light who finds a book, owned by a God of death, Ryuk. The book, called a Death Note, controls death, and writing a name in the death note can lead them to die from a heart-attack. He decides to start killing people, because why not, and the police decide to investigate, with the help of a brilliant detective who goes simply by the name L. Shit + fan. All I’m going to say.
Saint Young Men
Again, Japanese shit, I’m sorry, okay! I tried not to go all fangirl on you but this I couldn’t miss out. This manga, quite simply, tells the story of when Jesus and Buddha, go on holiday to Tokyo. This is fucking mental and so Japanese I could cry but my god, it’s gold. It’s a bit tricky to read so you may not get it if it’s your first time reading a manga but once you’ve got the hang of it it’s great. I can’t find a website particularly to buy mangas but I found them on eBay here so knock yourself out.
70’s Style Coat
I mean, technically, this isn’t mine; it’s Mama’s. But! She’s been in Australia recently and hasn’t had any need for her coat (for obvious reasons), so I took it upon myself to steal it because lordy lordy, is that a coat I need in my life. I feel like I’m in one of those 70’s British crime dramas that are on TV sometimes, especially paired with my black jeans and Derby's. Hubba hubba.
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
Me and my educational assistant are in a constant battle for me to read French books instead of constantly in English. I've tried and failed many times, but when she told me that she has bought a copy of the new Harry Potter book, I got rather excited. She said she'd lend it to me but it was in French. I bit the bullet and read 3 quarters of it in 2 days. I didn't get chance to finish it since we broke up for the holidays and I had to give it back to her, so I'll finish it in two weeks (hopefully). It's so good and I was constantly gripped. Every person I talked about it to said the same thing - it reads itself. It's really easy to read and it's so easy to get really sucked into the story. I'm not going to talk about the plot because knowing me I'm going to say everything. I just regret the fact that I couldn't snap a picture of it before I had to give it back!

MAC 'Hug Me'

Mama went to Australia in early September, and while she was in the duty free, she decided to treat herself to a new MAC lipstick. What she was looking for, was 'Velvet Teddy' (because the thing is a cult product), but instead, the sales woman got mixed up and gave her 'Hug Me' instead. Mama didn't actually think to check the name, bought it and was on her way. She tried it whilst in Australia and decided it wasn't for her as it was paler than she thought it would be and make her look "a *bit* like a corpse" (her words, not mine!). She decided to give it to me, and I took of course because who says no to a MAC lippy, huh? I wanted to take a snapchat for my friend Frances to make her jealous (because I'm such a lovely friend) and was going to take a photo of  bottom where the name is. As I went to take the photo, I saw the name and realised what had happened! I still decided to try it out and it's a really nice nude with some subtle brown tones.

I have a little announcement, which I'm going to tell you with a heavy heart. I went back to school on Thursday, and as I usually do put my bag under the staircase and didn't think any more about it. Then, yesterday evening, I opened my make-up bag in horror. Someone had stolen the entirety of my make-up bag, other than my moisturiser, my ELF powder and my Rimmel powder, my blending brush and my powder brush, and my Benefit palette. They took my Urban Decay 'On The Run' palette (which you probably all know by now is my favourite set ever), my Urban Decay 'Naked' concealer (the only fucking concealer that fit my skin tone!), and my Benefit 'Gimme Brow" brow mascara. I haven't been able to do all the maths to see how much but it was probably a good 80€ worth of make-up, but even aside from the money, it was all of my favourites, my staples, the make-up I used every single day. All that to say that I won't be posting many make-up posts for a while until I can get my make-up collection sorted and I can get myself sorted with what I have and what's gone. Saying that, I have some bits coming pretty soon from Boots so I'll probably do a baby haul once I receive it.

This post was really up in arms and really shit I'm so sorry, I'll do better soon!

Hey all, how’s you?

There are stereotypes for everyone. French, Italian, English, American, Asian, Jamaican; you name it, there’s a stereotypes for it. I don’t endorse these stereotypes, but I decided to ask around my English friends and on my social media, and also use stereotypes I know myself or that I had when I came to France, to put together this fun little mid-week post to fill you guys in on if the stereotype is true or not.

Also, I'm going to link anyone who helped me with this post with a link to their blog/Youtube/social media.

1/ Everyone smokes and drinks
Ehe… *scratches back of head awkwardly* okay I’ll give you this one. A large portion of the french population does smoke, and heavily, too. And everyone drinks from quite a young age. Yay, health!

2/ They eat bread at every meal
Again, I’ll give you this one. Bread is very popular and very good, too, which doesn’t help. When you first get here, you fall into this habit of eating bread with everything. Heck, I know someone who's dad eats bread with pasta. I shit you not, pasta. But then as you get into living here you don’t eat quite as much as at first.

3/ Everyone listens to accordion music
Even though accordion music is pretty popular amongst the older generation, but teenagers tend to listen to shit rap music instead. If you’re interested in extending your knowledge of shitty music from around the world, there’s Jul, Black M and Maitre Gims. I so hope you don’t enjoy it because it’s truly terrible. More decent artists are Fauve, BigFlo et Oli and Tryo.

4/ Every woman is hot as fuck and dressed insanely well and basically perfect (Frances)
Hell nooooo! It’s actually rare to find a genuinely beautiful, well dressed woman, sadly (at least where I live).

5/ All the guys are charming and want to sweep you off your feet (Ellie)
Again - hell nooo! Most guys are just generally unkempt and unattractive. It's catastrophic, really.

6/ Everyone is really elegant when they talk
Possibly one of the most ironic stereotypes. The French language in itself is, in fact, very beautiful, but most of the time, given the shitty accents most people have (other than Parisians), it's anything but attractive. It sounds a bit like when you're ill and have shit at the back of your throat and you're trying to cough it up. You can thank me later for the lovely mental images I've just given you.

7/ Everyone has a bike and rides around shouting "oui oui baguette" with stripy tops on. (Fran)
... Do-uh, do I actually have to say that that's not true?

8/ Everyone's good at cooking (Summer)
I mean, it's half true. A lot of people are good at cooking, but not all people. I know people who have burnt ready-meals before so you know, give or take.

9/ All men have long and thin moustaches. (Jago)
Surprisingly few men have facial hair. Moustaches are a rare thing, to be honest.

10/ Everyone is rude
I'll give you that because it's something that I really hate about French people is how closed and rude people are. There's a reason I get so cross when I'm outside.

There we have it! 10 French stereotypes that I have come across. I actually really enjoyed writing this, it was awfully amusing. Thank you to the lovely people who contributed to this post, do check them out because they're great and generally lovely people.

Hey all, how's you?

Happy Halloween! Well, I mean, almost. I always struggle finding a halloween costume (especially this year - why did I cut all my hair off?!), and this year I had no choice seeing as me and my friends are having a party. I racked my brains and decided to go with Chucky. I then decided that I my dignity wouldn't allow me to be Chucky, so I went with Mathilda from Leon The Professional (I also picked her because, lol, my full name is Matilda - I'm proud of the joke). This was going to prove a bit more difficult but hey, what's life without a bit of struggle? Anyway, I chatted to a friend of mine who pointed out that Mathilda isn't particularly scary, so I decided to kill her off and making her dead Mathilda. Much better. I'm really proud of this costume so I decided to share it with you guys, plus, if you just want to go as normal Mathilda, this is a pretty easy look to throw together last minute.

I'd suggest grabbing a drink or a snack for this post as I've made it chatty and apparently I have quite a lot to say.

Make-Up

Seeing as I decided to kill her off so I needed to make myself look even whiter than usual (if that's actually possible) and also to factor in some blood because why the hell not, it's halloween. So I got some face paint and mixed it with my Rimmel 'Match Perfection' foundation in the shade 010 Light Porcelain to give myself some more coverage aswell as getting rid of any blemishes and hyperpigmentation and also to mask my freckles. I popped some powder on top of it just to mattify it a bit and make sure it sets - I'm using the E.LF 'High Definition' loose powder. Next I'm just going to really gently line my eyes with dark brown eyeshadow from the Urban Decay 'On The Run' set, just to give myself a really intense look, and also to help with the dead-look. I'm then going to fill in my eyebrows so that it doesn't look like I'm eyebrow-less and also to frame my face and again, add intensity my face. I decided last minute to do a lil' bit of contouring, just to make myself look properly gaunt and dead. I contoured my cheeks to high heaven, then did on the side of my nose, around my hairline and on my jaw, too using the bronzer in the 'On The Run' set. Next I'm going to make my lashes look super full and thick, so I'm using my beloved (yet very battered) Urban Decay 'Perversion' mascara (though in the photos I realised too late that I had forgotten to put any mascara on! Next I'm just plopping a couple of drops of fake blood next to my tear ducts and let that run down (guiding it with a brush so it doesn't go down too far or look too weird) so that I am crying blood. Whilst I was trying this look out (and when I took the photos, too), I wanted to play with the positioning of the blood, so I decided to put it in both corners of my right eye and I think it looks pretty cool. The blood is very much up to personal preference when it comes to where you want to put it. I know to begin with Mathilda isn't wearing any lipstick, but I couldn't resist wacking on a bit of lippy. I wanted to make it quite blood red, so I applied the Maybelline 'Color Sensational' lipstick in the shade 470 Red Revolution and then in the middle I put a bit of the good old Rimmel 'Kate Moss' lipstick in the shade 107 and tried to blend and make it look half decent. I hope it worked! I made sure to accentuate my lips and even though it was totally unintentional that they were shaped like that I think it looks perfect!

Costume

I actually made my choker which I was very proud of. I also decided to ditch the hat, simply because I couldn't find one. The jacket is my mum's and has had it for ages but there's a similar one here. Again, my top is really freaking old and from Primark, you *may* be able to find it again during the summer but I doubt it, so again, here's a link for a similar one. My shorts, guess what, I can't find a link for! I swear the internet doesn't want me to link anything for this post, but they're just simple blue jean shorts and you can literally find that kind of thing anywhere so I'm not even going to bother linking to anything, plus you can wear pretty much any kind of shorts, whether they're black, dark blue, as long as they're fairly dark that's the main thing. My boots, again, are unfindable, but you can find some fairly similar here.

Hair

My hair was a whole other kettle of fish. As you guys know, I have little-to-no hair left anymore, so it was automatically going to be complicated to get Mathilda's classic hairstyle that everyone recognises. I had a look to see if I could find a half decent wig that would suit my needs, and luckily there was! I got my wig from the same shop I got the fake blood and face paint, it's from a brand called Boland but I can't for the life of me find a link to.

I don't actually have a photo of the ensemble but I shall add one as soon as I have one.

I must apologize for my uselessness at linking for this post, for some reason I decided to use untraceable items of clothing or really obscure make-up brands. Fun times!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I don't think I'll do this every year, simply because I really don't enjoy seasonal posts as I always do it at the last minute and it's just generally more stressful than anything but now and again I'll try.

What are you going as this halloween?

Hey all, how's you?

I'm a clever child... A clever child who has been thrown out of whack because I finished school on a Wednesday instead of a Friday, so forgot that yesterday was upload day.
I think this is something I'm going to do once a year, so that way I could look back on and see how I've changed. This is also totally a filler post because I've been rather busy doing this!  Which is transfering my blog back on to Blogger and making it look all lovely and adorable for you guys. I probably will do a post about why I left Wordpress and opted in favour of Blogger but for now all that needs to be said is that I'm back on Blogger.
