Matti May Hardie

Side note: Hello everyone! I haven't posted since Christmas, I apologise, I'm hopefully going to get posting more regularly now as I have a load of content in the works, notably one post that is massive that I'm really looking forward to sharing with you that I really hope you'll all enjoy! I'm looking forward to sharing more content with you soon!
__________________________________________

(Alternative title “how to get your shit together when your shit has never been together”.)

I’ve never been organised. As much as I’d like to be a little blond Californian girl with straight As and a tan, I’m not, and have accepted that I never will be. So I decided to share with you guys the list that I generally make at the beginning of the school year and try to sticks to for the rest of the year (now, whether that happens or not is a totally other debate) to help myself get myself organized and hopefully avoid any mental breakdowns. I wasn't very organised at the beginning of this year and just realised I haven't done it, so since I made it recently I figured I would share it with you guys.

This is also a list I tend to go back to when I'm feeling like quite a mess, when I can't get myself organised and I'm a bit all over the place, or when I need to get myself back to my productive self again - all of which are the case at the moment after the last few weeks of college that were hardcore, which is what inspired this blog post.

Beauty
  • Do nails
  • Hairdresser’s
  • Find new outfits
  • Find new make-up looks
  • Eyebrows
I like using the start of the school year to start fresh, so I tend to make a point of getting my hair cut or colored, and to find some new outfits and make-up looks. I’m not the most confident person in the world and it allows me to feel a bit more comfortable in my own skin. Then I’ll do my eyebrows and my nails just to make sure I look decent and human (obviously I pretty much give up this facade about a week into term but that’s just a detail).

Selfcare
  • 1L minimum of water everyday
  • Moisturize whole body after shower
  • Shave
  • Exfoliate
  • Face mask
This kind of falls under the beauty category but I wanted to take it’s own category because generally I do this with the specific reasoning of making sure I feel as good as I can. My anxiety can really play up at this time of the year and it helps no end when I take care of myself. Anything in this category is what I would consider self care rather than simple beauty steps.
I make my own exfoliant (sugar + olive/coconut oil - mix 1 spoon of oil to 1 and 1/2 spoons of sugar and then keep adding until you've got enough to exfoliate your whole body) and I like to do it before and after shaving, and then moisturise my whole body, both so I feel nice and my skin feels hydrated but also to avoid any razor rash which I get so easily (even with shaving cream!).
I always turn to my La Petite Lune clay face mask at the moment because it's just so good, I might cry when I run out, my skin just feels so clean and refreshed after!

School
  • Put all lessons into folders
  • Sort folders
  • Make sure there's nothing missing (pens, books, ect)
  • Do contents at the start of books
  • Start notepad
I try and make sure everything's in order so I can start off as I mean to go on, which means sorting my lessons into folders and to make sure all the folders are in order. I also make contents pages at the start of my notebooks so I don't need to fight my way through a ton of papers and notes flying around everywhere. I number the pages and then at the start of the chapter I'll note down the pages, ect ect. I find it easier to get my head around that way. I tend to keep a notepad that's exclusively for school stuff. I used to rip off a page and toss it in my bag but I can let you imagine how that worked. I tried bullet journaling but I'm just more of a simple list girl.

Let me know if I missed anything (please for the love of god, organised people of the internet, HELP ME).

Yes, hello, I have become that kind of cliché blogger, but I have no shame.

I love Christmas, especially gift giving, but presents have become so goddamned expensive, I can't really afford to buy anything really nice because everything it's all ridiculously priced. So I've hunted down the more affordable luxury things you can get for your loved ones.

Personally this Christmas I'm making the dinner, and it's the first Christmas in years where I'm spending the day with both my parents and Ayden is spending Christmas with us, so I count on feeling full of Christmas spirit!

Going back to the gift guide, I've made this in the mindset that I would buy all of these so there are a couple of more random ones!

Sephora Minis - shop here | M&S 'Tis The Season' Socks - shop here | Yankee Candles 'Samplers Votive' range (also hello they're half price on most/all of them; I would recommend this scent, it smells like Christmas it's great) - shop here

Smartphone projector (It's a little bit more pricey but I think it's still reasonable and also worth the price) - shop here | UV Nail Dryer (don't know if this would work but I think the idea's cool) - shop here | Beard Grooming Kit - shop here

I'm probably not going to get a chance to post again before Christmas so I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year and I hope you eat everything and get spoiled the way you deserve!

Also, I'm curious, what's the strangest/favourite Christmas tradition in your family?

I know a lot of people who get really squeamish when it comes to talking about periods, which always confuses me. What? Do you change your protection with your eyes closed? It's your own blood, why are you grossed out by that?

Of course I’m not expert and I’m in no way a professionnel but I figured it was the least I could do, so here is a lot of things about periods (in the form of a list, because it’s been a while since I’ve done a good list). However, pre-warning, these are things that I personally have experienced/noticed. It's not necessarily going to happen to you, everyone is different.

1/ Some symptoms won’t necessarily come straight away. At first, literally nothing happened. I would just bleed out of my vagina and that was that. It’s only as it went on that I started getting cramps, mood swings, and all those fun things. It’s fairly unstabilising to FEEL EVERYTHING all of a sudden.

2/ Ibuprofene is your new boo. Stomach cramps happen because your womb is simulating birth. Yeah. Fun. Stomach cramps are actually mini contractions. and since ibuprofene is an anti-inflammatory, it calms your womb and helps the pain subside better than if you were using paracetamol or other.

3/ Even if you’re like set like a clock it can come early/late. Sometimes I get surprises (always when I’m wearing my best underwear!) though I must say that the period tracker that I’ve been using for ages now really helps. I’d never been very good with tracking my period, and I would always forget to do it, but with Clue I’ve really tried to stick with it and I can definitely see it paying off. The more info you put in the better it can predict when your period is going to be and gives you loads of information that I don’t understand half of to be honest, but it's still pretty interesting.

5/ Protection is key and you don’t immediately find the right one for you. there are tons of different period products out there and generally you find your preferred one through trial and error. there are pads and tampons, but there’s also moon cups which are just amazing apparently (i’m meaning to try but i must admit i’m a bit scared of them). oh and tampons don’t always fit. if you’ve never had penetrative sex with a penis or other, then you may struggle a bit.

6/ Period sex is weird. people make it out to be dirty, or this amazing experience. but you don’t have to do it. some people are into it and other people aren’t.

7/ You’re going to have to deal with mood swings. you’ll find yourself crying for the slightest thing. I once started crying because I’d said something that sounded sad. oh and wanting to kill everyone for breathing is a frequent one for me too. i have yet to find a solution to this to be honest.

8/ The pill is not your enemy. it’s not the best alternative, but a lot of people will make it sound like it’s the devil’s working. granted, putting artificial hormones and chemicals into your body isn’t the greatest idea, but if you find absolutely no other solution, then don’t stop yourself if you know it can genuinely help you.

9/ Underwear. oh my lovely lingerie. how many nice knickers and even trousers have been ruined because of lady nature. i heavily recommend keeping a pad or a tampon in your bag for safety at all times. trust me, tried and tested, you can thank me later.

10/ Cravings and bloating is going to happen, all my ed humans out there, it’s going to be okay. there are loads of pro-ana and pro-mia techniques out there, but please, don’t go in for it. just breath, and remember that it’s temporary and that it will pass. and if you’re in the midst of an eating disorder, please, get help. there are loads of different charities and organisations that can  help you and give you the support and advice that you need. (also my instagram messaging is open if ever anyone needs to talk)

If you have any tips feel free to leave them in the comments.

Hey all, how's you?

God I'm old. This is fun! Next year I'm officially an adult *fist pump* soon my tattoos shall come!

1. Stop trying to hide your freckles. Embrace them! They're so cute!

2. Contour and highlight are real life photoshop and it's wonderful.

3. Talking calmly to someone about something that they're doing that bothers you is never a bad thing.

4. It's okay to not understand your sexuality.

5. Be proud of who you are and everything that you do.

6. It's okay to need to take some time out to not see people. That doesn't make you a bad friend or selfish.

7. Talk to people about things that make you uncomfortable.

8. Lists are good as long as you don't let them rule your life.

9. Writer's block will pass.

10. You're aloud to find your friends mind-bogglingly hot and yet not want a relationship with them.

11. Don't google your symptoms. Google will probably tell you you're dying when you've actually just got a cold.

12. It takes longer than you'd think to built up a circle of people you genuinely would trust with your life.

13. Punctuation is really important. Use it, goddamnit!

14. Just because everyone around you is having sex, doesn't mean that you have to as well. If sex isn't something that attracts you that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you.

15. Literally no one is going to pressure you into taking drugs in high school or college.

16. Eating healthily and having a decent diet reduces anxiety.

17. You can literally listen to whatever music you want. You don't have to stick to one genre. Just because you listen to metal doesn't mean you can't listen to k-pop (speaking from experience).

18. You are absolutely allowed to love with yourself and find yourself attractive.

19. A good handshake shows a lot about someone.

20. Self-love will never break your heart.

As always I hope you guys enjoyed this post and I'll see you next week!

Hey all, how's you?

I guess it's fair to say that I'm a pretty awkward human. It's just a fact - I have no bloody clue how to act like a normal human.

1/ You send someone a message. And then you think of something else and send that too. Before you know it you've sent them 5 texts, 3 snaps and a Facebook message, and now you want to send them yet another message to explain that you're not a stalker.

2/ You basically clutch to your phone like a life support in public to avoid accidentally staring at people and seem like a psychopath.

3/ You can't talk. You just can't. Between the stuttering, the words that come out in the wrong order and the words that just aren't there, you pretty much give up on the whole concept.

4/ Compliments? WHAT ARE THOSE? They end up being the most obscure compliments in the world like 'you have very moisturised knees' or 'your hair looks less greasy today' (before you ask, I did in fact say that to someone once).

5/ The absolute terror when you see an aquaintance in public. Do you say hello? Do you smile? Or do you just pretend you didn't see them?

6/ Two words - word vomit. I'll say no more.

7/ Constant babbling. Even in your brain, it never fucking shuts up. Even when you plan what you're going to say, 9 times out of 10 it still goes to shit.

8/ Waitress: "Enjoy your meal!" Me: "You too!"

9/ You end up laughing your own jokes in your head, but you're laughing out loud so you basically look like a psycho (again).

10/ Not daring to speak for no reason because if not you're going to end up babbling like an idiot for 15 minutes about bananas.

You can find Dreast on Instagram here or @freedreast, or their blog here - it's fucking beautiful and makes me weep every time I go on it (plus they're not totally awful to look at), and they're a good one, a favourite of mine, I'd say.

Hey all, how's you?

The jobs for my half-term were the following:

- Put classes up to date
- Finish Death Note (I've been watching it for way too long it's not even funny anymore)
- Write a shit ton of blog content

The problem is, of course, the last one. It's always the same thing - when I'm at school, I have a shit-ton of ideas and inspiration for posts, and when I have the time and I can sit down and write content, I HAVE NO IDEAS ANYMORE. It's really impractical, but it happens all the time, so after a while I've found a few things to remedy this.

Also, for some reason, even though I was spouting about how much good content I was going to produce this year, I feel like my motivation for writing blog posts has hit rock bottom, so that's fun.

Take Inspiration From Your Surroundings

It's so simple, yet it works. I mean, this all depends on what kind of blogger you are, but if you're like me and do a lot of lifestyle posts, just look around, listen to what people are talking about, watch/read the news, read a book, go on social media and try and find what people are talking about. This is honestly something I do regularly and helps me a lot. Even your writers block could help (example - this bloody post). Whether your thing is lists or essays or whatever, try and look around and see what's going on in the world.

Read Some Blogs

I know it's easy to tread the line between inspiring yourself from something someone else has written and downright plagiarising someone, but reading stuff other people have written can help. I mean, obviously don't steal people's ideas, but sometimes something someone says will resonate and that'll inspire an entire blog post for you (trust me on that, the number of posts that were inspired by other bloggers is insane).

Take Some Time Out

I know, insanity. What a concept! Missing a post? Never!
But in all seriousness, it's not always a bad idea to miss out a post now and again when you're feeling a certain lack of ideas. Sometimes that's exactly what you need in order to jog some inspiration.

Brainstorm

This is easier said than done, and definitely takes practise. It took me fucking ages to learn to brainstorm. I know, who knew it was an art form? But really, just get out of your house (i.e coffee shop, park, public library, train station - fucking anywhere where there are people), grab a notebook, a pen (please take an actual notebook. It's not the same as your phone) and a drink and just sit. Look around, doodle, jot down vague ideas, words, anything that comes to mind. Sometimes that really helps to jog some ideas.

Pre-Write Posts

Okay so this isn't something you can do whilst you're struggling, but it's something you can do before-hand. If you're like me and is a stickler for regular posting, when you have a period where you are really motivated, just pre-write or start to write a shit-ton of posts. That way, you can either finish them or polish them off and post them, and no one will be any wiser. It works wonders, I swear.

Write Fake Posts

Of course, there are things that you don't want to talk about on your website. But maybe now and again you'll have an idea for a post about it, but that you know you'll never post it. Write it anyway; not only will you be able to practise your writing style, but often that helps me jog my ideas, too.

I hope this post helped some of you who may be struggling with writers block. Let me know some of your tips in the comments because I swear I'm taking anything at the moment!

Hey all, how's you?

You know what I mean. Your friend has started seeing someone - that's great! You're really happy for them, and then they ask you if you fancy coming out with them... You know what that means - third wheeling. Tenir la chandelle. Mantenga la vela. Say it in any language, it means the same thing. They're going to be coupling it up and you're going to be contemplating how many cats you'll end up with.

1/ I wonder how long my phone battery will last? How long is it polite to stare at it so I can avoid eye contact?

2/ Oh god, they're going to kiss. Look away. Excuse yourself. DO SOMETHING.

3/ Is 12 cats too many? I think that's a reasonable amount. I mean, I won't have to buy anyone anything, so I can spend it on the cats.

4/ I'm going to be single forever. That's my destiny.

5/ Ah, they've finished having their moment! About bloody time.

6/ I don't think I was always this bitter, was I?

7/ Are they have a row? I should go over and check. Then again, I don't want to be in the middle of a domestic.

8/ Am I being annoying? Maybe they're dying for me to go away so they can be just the two of them and I'm just too blind to realise.

9/ Twitter *scrolls*, Instagram *scrolls*, Pinterest *scrolls*, Snapchat *presses*, Faceb- oh shit, I have no battery left.

10/ I am happy she's finally found someone who treats her right.

11/ AWW THEY'RE WAY TOO CUTE.

12/ Oh thank fuck someone I know, COME AND TALK TO ME.

13/ Ohhhh, they're hot, I wonder if they're single? It'd probably be awkward if I went and hit on them, though.

14/ I love the way they look at each other, you can tell they really like one another.

Because, I mean, as much as you love your friends, third wheeling is never fun.

P.S - 'Matti May Hardie' is 3 today! Thank you to anyone who reads this crap, I really do appreciate you.

So next week I'm 16. That's crazy, as I feel like it was just yesterday that I was turning 15. I did a post like this last year, so I wanted to do another one, because I've learnt a lot over this past year.

To be honest I still can't quite believe I'm going to be 16 soon.

1. Never write e-mails whilst you're still angry. Go outside and breath. Then come back, make yourself a cup of tea, and write the e-mail slowly and carefully. Take care of what you say, you may regret it later on.

2.  It's totally fine to not be interested in sex. You don't have to have sex or sexual activity with anyone if you don't want to. That doesn't make you weird, or wrongly wired. You can love someone without wanting sex with them; that doesn't mean you love or care about them any less.

3. Bright candy pink lipsticks never have and never will be flattering on anyone ever.

4. Never judge someone based on how they dress/look, they may just be the nicest person you'll ever meet.

5. Hangovers are a very painful experience. The best way to treat them is McDonald's - just sayin'.

6. When you leave high school, you're not going to remain in contact with everyone, let alone remain friends.

7. Listen to your elders, they see and understand more than they let on.

8. You're not aloud to dress well until you're at least 13, before then it's right of passage to dress like crap and play on gamesforgirls.com - we've all gone through it.

9. Nothing is permanent

10. People change. You can't stop that. People who really love you will embrace that no matter what.

11. You can dress and act however you like.

12. You won't always necessarily discover that a relationship is unhealthy right away. Sometimes it takes someone to call them out for you to notice it.

13. You're not always going to have the same views as your parents.

14. It's cool to be different.

15. Things get a lot better after high school.

16. Every move you make and every word you speak should be calculated and thought through. Use you words carefully.

What have you learnt during your years of living? Let me know in the comments.
