Matti May Hardie

Hey all, how's you?
I have, in my little make-up collection, quite a bit of high-end make-up. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like a drugstore products, some of them actually do the same thing or even better than the high end versions, but I like having good quality products, and for that, you sometimes need to spend a bit more money. And today I'd like to talk about a few more expensive products that are worth the money.
High End Make-Up That's Worth The Price
Nars "Radiant Creamer" Concealer - 22,50£
This is the creamiest, easiest to blend concealer ever! It's really lightweight and it doesn't look like you're wearing anything at all.
Urban Decay "Perversion" Mascara - 17,50€
I think I can safely say, without a doubt, this is my favourite mascara. It applied amazingly every time, there a little to no clumps, it stays on all day, gives your lashes masses of volume and length. It's amazing, and to be totally honest, I'm willing to pay 23€ every time - it's that good.
MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger - 15,50£
I bought this about a year ago and to be totally honest I'm a *bit* scared of using it, because I don't want it to run out. Do I really need to spend long talking about it? It's a really great lipstick, as are all MAC lipsticks. The pigmentation is incredible, it applies beautifully and as soon as I can I shall be splashing out and buying myself another one - I'm thinking Velvet Teddy? I did a review a while ago of this lipstick and the concealer I bought with it that you can check out here.
Bobbi Brown "Smokey Eye" Mascara - 29,00£
Again, this is a really great mascara. I'm definitely more one for brush applicators rather than plastic ones. I feel like it just brightens my eyes and makes it me look a lot more awake than I actually am.
Benefit "POREfessional" Primer - 24,50£
I never actually realised what a good primer this is until I recently actually started paying attention to if the products I was using were genuinely good or if it's just that I feel obliged to use them because they're expensive or because I want to like them. It really does make my make-up stay on all day and I also noticed that my foundation and concealer is considerably less patchy by the end of the day when I use this primer.
Urban Decay Eyeshadows - depends
For the photo, I used the Naked 3 palette just to give an example, but I am basically in love with all of the eyeshadows I used by Urban Decay. They're pigmented, they apply well, the colours are just impossibly gorgeous and I couldn't recommend them more.
Benefit "Gimme Brow" Brow Mascara - 18,50£
I've had an uneasy relationship with this product for quite a while now. I've never really been able to figure out whether I like it or not. I've decided, after much deliberation, that actually, it can be really good if used in the right way.

Hey all, how’s you?
Death_to_stock_photography_weekend_work (2 of 10)
You may or may not remember that a while ago I did two posts called Blogging Tips (see them here and here). I really enjoyed giving back in a way to the blogging community and helping newer bloggers who happen to stumble onto my lil’ blog looking for help. With this in mind, I decided to create a series of posts where I would talk about everything I have learnt in my two years of blogging. Seeing as this is the first post, I thought it would only be logical to talk about getting started in blogging.
Today I’m going to be talking about everything from web design, which platform to use, to what you equipment you need.
Equipment
I wanted to start by talking about equipment because I want to make a point here that I learnt through my mistakes. When I first started blogging, I was, like from what I’ve read many people, under the impression that you needed to have a big fancy set up with box lights and a professional DSLR camera and a MacBook Pro and a fancy desk from Ikea, plus journalist writing skills to go with it all. I have since understood that that is not necessary. It’s taken me a while, but I’ve understood that really, all you need for to make and write a blog is to have a computer, access to an internet connection and a camera - even your phone camera will do! I started out with a crappy Toshiba laptop and my iPod camera in my apartment in rural France.
A notebook, though I originally bought this for stationary and list making porn, is really useful too, I’ve actually ended up falling in love with this notebook, I write everything I need to remember, research or thoughts on it and I have a funny feeling I’m going to fill it up rather quickly!
Webdesign
Here’s the fun part! Not really I’m just kidding, this is probably the part you’re going to hate and will make you want to rip your hair out every time you even look at a HTML code but it really can make a difference to your blog and will be the make or break of if your blog stands out or looks like you just used a blogger template and didn’t bother even looking at the settings - in simple terms, if it looks like you put some effort into your blog or not. It’ll also be the decider as to how your blog. I don’t know about other people but if someone’s banner and layout doesn’t look too good, I’m immediately unenthused and more tempted to click away straight away.
 - For your header, I’d strongly recommend you find something eye-catching so that it encourages your reader to keep reading and snooping around your blog. Again, you don’t have to be amazing at HTML to have a decent header. I’m shit at it yet I managed to make my blog look half okay, right? I mean, both the banners I’ve had on my blog were made by yours truly on the collage section of PicMonkey. All you need is an image in your head of what you want it to look like and then you’re pretty much set.
 - When it comes to social media buttons - just don’t look at me, okay? No one has any idea of how fucking much I fought trying to get the perfect social media icons okay?! (I’m still sensitive about it). Here’s what I did - I searched it on Pinterest. Yes I am a cliche! I know! I’m aware! But I don’t care because it worked. So just search “social media icons” on Pinterest and you’ll have more than enough options for you to sift through.
I mean, I could sit here for ages and talk about it but yeah, if you’d like me to do a full post on it then let me know and I shall do it for you guys with pleasure.
Platforms
This has been a big war in the bloggersphere - Blogger or Wordpress? Personally, for the two years that Matti May Hardie has been a thing, I’ve been using Blogger. It’s easy to use, user-friendly, and I can get my head around it. The problem with it is that you can’t really do much with it. There’s not much room to do anything. Wordpress is good because the web design is a lot better, though I do feel like it's tricky to actually access the HTML on Wordpress? I keep looking but I can't actually see anywhere to get to those settings. It's also just quite complicated to figure out at first. I'm still getting to grips with it and I've been on Wordpress for almost a month now (I know it doesn't sound like long but, in my opinion, it should, in theory, be easy to work your way around a platform and should only take you a week or two to get your head around).

Hey all, how's you?
I can't believe I'm writing this. Why, did I think this would be a good idea?
My posts have been rather serious of late, and I had been looking high and low for something a little more upbeat. Last night, I re-read Nicole (at Thrifty Vintage Fashion - look her up, she's amazing)'s post, '10 Embarrassing Photos Of My Childhood'. So I had a little route around and couldn't see much of interest - until, that is, I remembered I had a Dropbox account that I no longer ever use, but that I did use a lot when I was younger (I'm talking iPod era - circa 2012/13). I decided to have a little search there, and I was in no way disappointed! I decided it would be a nice little mid-week post for you guys, so here are 6 photos of my childhood, ranging from 2012 to 2014 - enjoy!

Jesus, this is probably the oldest photo I have of me that is accessible to me. This is the good old "don't look at the camera and pretend to be sad about something". I remember falling in love with this photo because I'd found a way to just having me in black and white and apparently I thought that was the best thing since sliced bread.
Also, can we just take a moment to discuss the hair? Right, let me explain something - I have a lot of hair. I always have had this thick mop of hair and even if the hairdressing thinned the living daylights out of it, I feel like it would always just come back within a day. Another point that's probably useful to add - my Dad cut my hair until I was about 14, so for most of this post, you're going to see my hair being either stuck to my head or practically 80s style and I don't think there's any inbetween.

A bit older here, I'm probably about 13, and every time I see this photo I want to punch myself in the face, whilst asking myself "did you have to be such a cringy child, Matti? What's with that half-ass smile, anyway?!". So here I'm sporting... well... kind of the same thing I wear now, in Autumn; white, long sleeved top and a leather jacket (I actually still have and wear that jacket and it fits me perfectly to this day which I kind of depressing when you think that I bought it when I was 12, isn't it?). I can't even think of what I'm wearing as trousers but probably some shitty, cheap jeans and some fake, 20€ converses. With this, I'm wearing what looks like 50 necklaces. I could actually tell you where I got each necklace from, though I couldn't tell you why I'm wearing that ring on the necklace, though. Probably wanted to be original, didn't I?

I think I'm trying to look sexy here, which is weird. You're 13, child, you have no need to be sexy, babe, plus, you're not, so stop trying. I can even remember taking this photo, though! I thought my hair looked half decent so I decided to take some photos, plus, for some reason it was cool that my jacket was hanging off my shoulder.

What... Am... I... Doing. In what world is that pose a good idea? Also, I'm ashamed of that outfit. Denim waistcoat, white vest and, it wouldn't surprise me, a pair of dark coloured jeans - *inhales sharply* double denim!

If you just ignore the stupid look on my face, but look at my hair! Look at that mop! There's so bloody much of it! I'm sporting a jacket that I have no idea where it went, but it's a shame because it's the most comfortable jacket ever. Oh well.

Right, story time. My godmother has this dog, his name is Benson. Benson is a loveable idiot-type dog. And sometimes, when he wants some attention and love, will come and sit on you. I decided to document it. I hadn't long woken up, as you can see from the hair and all the make-up down my face.

I'm sorry I couldn't find more, but actually, by the time I was 14, it stopped being as humiliating. Though the weirdest thing for me is seeing me with my natural colour.
I hope you enjoyed this fun little post as much as I wanted to punch myself in the face!

Hey all, hows you?

Now, I'm aware that this post is rather late, but I couldn't not post it because I don't think I've had this many favourites for ages!

KimchiCloud
Source

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m trying to teach myself Korean, as you do. I’m always looking for sites that can help me learn some vocab, but also grammar points so that I can actually form a sentence because that’s always nice. I was having a little look around and found this really cool website (with the coolest name haha) and now I’m trying to learn some new vocab thanks to this website.

Peaky Blinders
Source

Mama had told me about this series a while ago, but, being totally consumed by Korean dramas, I hadn’t really considered looking into it. But the other day, after reading an article about how many cigarettes Cillian Murphy (who plays Tommy Shelby in the series) had smoked whilst playing the character, I decided to watch the first episode and enjoyed it, but didn’t watch anymore for a reason I can’t remember. Then, last Saturday, I was doing my make-up and decided to pop something on so that I could watch something (downside to watching dramas are that you have to read the subtitles so in turn, it’s impossible to multitask whilst watching it) aaaaand now I’m addicted. I’ve just finished season 1 in my dorm room and this weekend Mama and I are going to start on season 2 together. It’s set in post-war Birmingham and follows the story of the “Peaky Blinders” gang, consisting principally of the Shelby brothers.

Kpopalypse
Source
I was looking for a photo for my k-pop blog and came across this blog through a photo on it. It’s written by an Australian radio DJ who has a radio show where he plays exclusively k-pop and decided to create a blog to go along with the radio show (also called Kpopalypse). His humour is very sarcastic, but that’s my favourite kind of humour so it was right up my street. So if you’re into k-pop and aren’t easily offended, go and have a look at this blog because he makes me laugh so much!

Liquid eyeliner
Eyeliner

I have a really bad habit of sticking with one type of make-up product if I like it. I don’t even bother looking for anything else. For eyeliner, it was always going to be felt-tip liner. I’d tried liquid eyeliner when I was younger and a lot more inexperienced and had had a really bad experience with it, so I decided that I would never bother trying again. But my felt-tip liner ran out recently, so I reluctantly grabbed the liquid eyeliner my cousin had given to me and that had been lying around, neglected, since last summer. With a bit of fiddling, it looked really good. I actually almost preferred it looked compared to the felt-tip liner. I would tell you guys what liquid eyeliner I use but the packaging is so worn that I don’t actually know.

Game Of Thrones
Screen Shot 2016-06-30 at 15.17.09.png
Game. Of. Fucking. Thrones people!! I'm so happy I finally got on that bandwagon! My friend Marion got me started on this series. I'd always wanted to watch it, but I'd just never gotten around to watching it. Then Marion started watching it and I thought "fuck it" and downloaded the first 2 seasons. Then I got through the first season in one weekend... So I downloaded up until the season 4... and then finished season 2 in a week. Long story short, I finished 6 seasons in 2 months, give or take seeing as I had exams and stuff like that, so let's say a month and a half. You see my problem?! You see why I never get anything done?! So yeah, go watch it, it's amazing and everyone dies. You'll love it. Valar Morghulis! (500 brownie points to those who understand what that means).
Book, Lipstick and Bracelet
Beauty Success Lipstick
I’m trying to use different products that I haven’t used in an age at the moment, and to rediscover some old favourites, and out of it came this little gem - it’s from Beauty Success  (a french makeup shop) and it’s in the shade N°1 Nude Mat. It’s a really nice pinky nude with some peachy, corally tones in it too and it’s perfect to just whack on every day, seeing as sometimes you can get sick of Kate Moss 107 every single day of the year. The only thing I could fault it for is its texture which is a bit oily for my tastes, and also makes it a bit impractical for applying it as it’s best to layer to get the best colour payoff possible.
Paperchase Notepad
Trigger warning: stationery porn. Look at it! It’s so pretty I could cry! I mean when Mama told me she had gotten me a notepad with parrots on it, I was… unimpressed to say the least. But actually they’ve grown on me (I have yet to name them, feel free to propose some names in the comments). Plus it’s perfect for blog post prepping and everything surround my blogs.
Notebook, Pen and Hair Oil
Charm Bracelet
This was a birthday present from Mama, and it’s super pretty. It’s like a Pandora bracelet but a lot less expensive (I do not have the money to justify spending 40€ on a charm). I only have three charms for the moment but I plan on buying other ones at specific times (after my exams, at Christmas, those kinds of things). Sadly, I can't link it because my Mum bought it at her work and they don't have a
Hair Oil
I’ve always been afraid of using oil. I’m always scared that I’m going to use too much and I’m going to end up disgusting and oily and that’s not my thing. Anyway, I’ve always been afraid of using hair oil because I was worried I was going to use too much and make my hair really greasy and oily so I’d try to stay away . Then I tried this oil and it totally changed my opinion. It makes my hair look so much more healthy and nice and it makes my hair actually wearable instead of this lump of hay sitting on my head. Though I'm afraid I can't find a link to it anywhere, but if you stumble upon this and your hair needs a bit of encouragement, pick it up. You can thank me later.
